The unconscious mind contains hidden content imprinted during visual and experiential processes. I relate to this mind-state similar to the objects fallen behind the dresser or lodged within cracks much too narrow for our hand to reach. Things we cannot see might soon be forgotten until the infrastructure is rearranged, revealing what we once thought was lost. Such objects have the ability to trigger memory for a time and space once lived. Within those cracks, I seek to discover a feeling that reveals itself to me in the state between unconscious dreaming and conscious rationality. It is a place I have come to investigate and question as possibly the purest form of truth within all realms of consciousness. It is the time and space between these two states where we experience vulnerable sensations kindred to the moment of birth; possibly similar to the state between wake and sleep where images have sensation or reference but certainly no absolutes.
My recent works analyze metaphoric constructs relative to both human condition and animal instinct. I am interested in the potential intersections, or shared actions between man and animal, as well as the masks we wear to disguise our conditions. By juxtaposing artificial constructs with authentic representations, I hope to access the space between two points of contention. This space is where I believe unconscious experience thrives. It is a space I strive to access through my image creations where the participant can experience both front-stage action and back-stage enigma.
